‘Do not judge a book by its cover’

‘Let it flow for its own path’ - 15th August 2020

‘Do not judge a book by its cover’ - That was a hard lesson I needed to learn.

It is not that I was judging people with their looks or appearance. But seriously it was a tough lesson to perceive properly by always keeping a roll of ‘a silent observer’ at the back of my head. I could interact with all different kinds of people flexible if I want to. Though after this period of being my eyes tested, I needed to be more careful for myself with whom I would or should associate myself with.

It is a story from years back when I was living in a foreign country. Possibly you might say that was an easy thing to guess from the cultural difference therefore there was a language boundary.  Though you might understand my point, if you have ever experienced living in a foreign country for a while, started to mingle over with different people, that because of this language boundary, people tend to show us their true nature as if they assuming that we don’t understand them verbally anyway, or, they can get away with their own manipulation. In the end, it was their home ground, not mine. On the other hand, in order to understand the situation you are in as a foreigner, we tend to rely more on our senses to balance out our verbal or cultural gap, with which I found the most valuable lesson within.

Psychologically speaking, we do not function to ‘judge’ people only by verbal communication.

They say scientifically, how we perceive things or people are by :

Visual    85 %

Hearing   7% (Not only by what others are ‘saying verbally but also the tones of voices, the way we interact to each other, etc)

Tactile 3%

Smell 2%

Taste    1%

“You must learn to heed your senses. Humans use but a tiny percentage of theirs. They barely look, they rarely listen, they never smell, and they think that they can only experience feelings through their skin. But they talk, oh, do they talk.”
