`The garage - introspection - in the flow`

‘Being surrendered’ - 23rd September 2020

The shop owner told me, ‘I don’t know why. I can not explain it quite. But it did click to me. Simply clicked.’  He was not the first person who told me in such a word the day.

In the early morning of the same day, we met a young guy who was a rickshaw driver when my son insisted on riding the one. He was from the southern island of Japan, Kyusyu, and came to live in Tokyo dreaming to become a Japanese Sushi chef. But there was a twisted turn unexpectedly. One day it did click, he told me about being a rickshaw driver and doing the physical jobs. I don’t even know why, simply feeling good, he said.

Back to the story of the shop owner, I was simply wandering around the downtown of Tokyo, Asakusa, and happened to find the small aged painting which was displayed behind the window of the front facade. The old shopping arcade where this shop was located was rather a run-down place where only the local people seem to be around in a relaxed and slow manner. The shop with the small painting was a silversmith workshop. I entered the shop out of curiosity as I was somehow moved by the painting.

‘I love the small painting which is displayed behind the window there.’

He gave me a slightly bitter smile.

‘That is my painting. I painted myself when I was a lot younger. A long long time ago. Thank you. I wanted to be a painter. I thought I could sacrifice anything for painting, and I did sacrifice all the rests apart from painting. I abandoned my parents, my friends, my hometown, all that I had at that time. But in the end, I could not survive.’

He kept talking, ‘Finally when I felt that I was betrayed by my own life and failed completely, somehow the harmony came back to my life. ‘

The harmony between me and my family and the harmony between me and the whole things that I left in my hometown, and the best of all the harmony between me and my internal self. When I was uncertain about what I would be my next move for my life, one day I happened to find this local silversmith workshop and clicked.

After he finished his story, he gave me a big smile. The special smile that makes you content and understands the whole picture in more like an intuitive level.

The mystery of our hearts knowing about which arrow would be toward our happiness, beyond our frame of the ‘thinking’.
