‘The impulsive drive’ - 20th December 2020

The owner-chef of the noodle shop proudly said to me, 

‘You know, it’s been the same pattern for 50 years. Everything is just the same for the 50 years! ’

I’m happy to see such a grandpa. A type of person who is particular about “old-fashioned”.

I feel relaxed for no reason. This noodle shop hasn’t changed at all that you would expect to visit again after a certain period of absence, it would be still there just the way you would imagine, which would bring a sense of comfort and joy in a way.

’Because I lived by sticking only to the taste of miso. All is well! Even you might think it is only about the taste of miso, it hasn’t been so simple to keep the same taste. Imagine? If you would change the shop location even slightly, the taste won’t be the same as before. If you would change the person who cooks it, then again, it won’t be the same either.  I will be sticking to the same taste as long as I would be alive. So that is the way all would be well! ’

What he said shocked me in a positive manner. We tend to believe that we can only thrive out of certain changes. Though what he just said awaken me with a kind of a key essence of consistency toward what he cares about most. 

In a way, following through with changes would be much easier than sticking to one taste of Miso.
